Why is the american NSF certificate important?

The American NSF organization sets the requirements to be met by all products which get in contact with drinking water in order to ensure that they do not release contaminants such as lead, with the aim of safeguarding the consumers’ health.

Lead is a toxic metal, its compounds are water soluble, they may cause neurological and behavioural disorders besides cardiovascular diseases. The exposure to lead may represent a risk for new-born babies, young children and pregnant women, since it can also cause retardations in the neurological development of children. The presence of lead in drinkable water is related to the presence of old pipelines made of lead, a material used in past times by the Roman Emperors just for this aim. Lead can reach water and soils due to the corrosion of lead pipelines in the water distribution systems and to the corrosion of leaded paints.

The NSF/ANSI Standard 61, Annex G Weighted Average Lead Content Evaluation Procedure to a 0.25 Percent Lead Requirement – establishes that the lead content shall not exceed 0.25% for all products which get in contact with drinkable water. This limit shall be respected by the manufacturers of taps, valves, pipes, fittings and any other product which gets in contact with drinkable water.

Also our company has been awarded with the NSF certification, which has been issued on 30 September 2014.
